Free Programs

Learners may enter programs at any time throughout the school year and work at their own pace. Adult learners are assessed to determine placement in the classes that are right for them.

  • The CAEC Prep Program helps people without a high school diploma earn a high school equivalency certificate by preparing them for the CAEC assessments, which have replaced the GED in Nova Scotia.

The program includes five tests in Math, Science, Social Studies, Reading and Writing, all of which must be passed to earn the CAEC Certificate.

We offer a mix of instructor-led sessions and independent study to help you prepare for these exams. Our instructors will guide you through the material, assist with setting up your CAEC account and help you schedule your tests.

The CAEC is free for Nova Scotia residents. You can find more info on CAEC here.

31 years serving the community!

BSLN has offered community-based literacy and CAEC (formerly GED) preparation programs for adults in one-to-one tutoring and classroom-based instruction since 1994. We’ve helped hundreds of adults in that time.

Some adults find their level of education prevents them from getting a good job and wish to work towards their CAEC (high school equivalency certificate). Others may want to write a letter to their family or read a novel for the first time.

Some adults have gone on to receive their CAEC certificate, gaining them entry into trade programs, colleges and universities. Others have used their new knowledge and abilities to help their children do homework. For a variety of reasons, many have rediscovered their self-esteem and self-confidence.
