Become a volunteer.
Are you interested in becoming a volunteer tutor? If you have at least 3 hours a week where you would like to help someone improve their abilities in reading, writing, math, science or basic computer skills, please contact us.
How it works
Starting the journey to upgrade your learning is as easy as 1-2-3!
-
First, you will go to the BSLN office to meet with the Director, who will guide you through a brief screening assessment to determine the most suitable program for you.
-
Next, you will meet with the instructor, who will conduct a more focused assessment to determine how best to support you in the classroom. Together, you and the instructor will then develop a learning plan tailored to your needs.
-
By working with the instructor and/or tutor, you’ll be on your way to unlocking your potential and empowering your future through continuous learning.
If you are part of the CAEC Prep program, the instructor will guide you through the entire process from deciding which of the five testing subjects to begin with, to helping you prepare and register for each test.
We are here to help you every step of the way!
To register for one of BSLN’s programs, please email hello@bsln.ca or call us at 902-869-3838.

31 years serving the community!
BSLN has offered community-based literacy and CAEC (formerly GED) preparation programs for adults in one-to-one tutoring and classroom-based instruction since 1994. We’ve helped hundreds of adults in that time.
Some adults find their level of education prevents them from getting a good job and wish to work towards their CAEC (high school equivalency certificate). Others may want to write a letter to their family or read a novel for the first time.
Some adults have gone on to receive their CAEC certificate, gaining them entry into trade programs, colleges and universities. Others have used their new knowledge and abilities to help their children do homework. For a variety of reasons, many have rediscovered their self-esteem and self-confidence.
